James Ray Griffin
PORTSMOUTH
- James Ray Griffin, 63, of the 300 block of
Corell Court
, died Sunday, May 9, 2010 in his residence. A native of
Suffolk
, he was an account representative for Frischkorn Inc.
He was a baseball umpire and a member of the Virginia
Officials Association and the Portsmouth Sports Club, a
volunteer for PIT, and a master gardener intern. He
served in the Marine Corps Reserve. He is survived by
his wife, Patsy M. Griffin; a son, Ryan R. Griffin of
Portsmouth
; a brother, William Moore of
Chesapeake
; aunts and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death
by his parents, Preston Ray and Frances Redd Griffin; a
brother, Lindell Griffin Moore; and YaYa and Pappy. A
funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, in
Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the
Revs. Tom Potter and Ricky Moore. Burial will be in
Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends
at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial
donations may be made to the Portsmouth Sports Club
Scholarship Fund. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
Jim
was a member of VSTUA for more than 11 years. The
Association would like to extend our deepest sympathy to
the Griffin Family.

Gary
Harris, Appalachia, Virginia
Gary Lynn
Harris, 63, died Friday at Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big
Stone Gap. The family will receive friends Monday from 5
to 8 p.m at Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap. The
funeral will follow in the funeral home chapel. Final
arrangements will be private.
For those that may not know Gary, he was one of the
founders of the District 11 Umpires Association (before
we became District 13) and an Umpire Consultant for
the district. He was an Assistant District
Administrator while we were part of District 11.
He also helped to organize Appalachia Little League
in the 1970's. Gary served as the Vice
President of this Association in 1987 & 1988.
The Association extends our deepest sympathy to
the Harris Family.

Andy
Konyar elected as Honorary Member of VSTUA

March 2009) During the Fall 2008 Membership Meeting Andy
Konyar, retired Little League International
Umpire-in-Chief, was nominated and elected as a
Honorary Member of VSTUA. At the Spring 2009
Membership Meeting Andy was in attendance for his award
presentation. Making the presentation was Buddy
Nagele, VSTUA President
